I'll be quitting the game at the end of April most likely (possibly end of March already), so I need to get of my ass and decide what to do with POLUtils when that happens.
What I plan to do:
  • set up a Subversion repository somewhere (Versionshelf, DevGuard or Hosted-Projects - not decided yet)
  • give a select few read access to the repository, possibly with write access on a branch (if I can get that set up properly)
  • those (ideally 1 but could be a team) that prove they're able to do something useful with the code will get write access to the repository and will be designated the official POLUtils maintainer (also with mod or admin privileges on this forum)

Candidate maintainers, please post here, including at least 1 idea for a nontrivial change to POLUtils, or a new utility for it. Implementing that would be your "audition" for maintainer, so don't go overboard (e.g. while a model viewer would be nice, it's not something you'd get built in a short amount of time).
POLUtils is written in C#, so that's what you'd be working in (even though it could load VB or C++-based assemblies just fine, that will not be accepted).

*crosses fingers, hoping for at least 1 reply*

Pebbles,

I already talked to you in e-mail, I'm interested. Just so I meet the requirements you've set, I've already written, and tested, a better way to load images from the dat files (with restrictions, as I've already talked to you about).

A sample of something I've done is found at www.binarycow.com/MogSafe_0.1.zip . MogSafe is essentially a clone of AltanaView, which will have more features.

I've also written AmmoWatch as seen at http://www.windower.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=8306&hl=AmmoWatch
AmmoWatch is basically an on-screen display of the number of items you have in your ammo slot. It is now defunct, as I have been focusing on MogSafe.

I'm also the creator of PriceWatch - a LIMITED release program (a few friends) - that connected to ffxiah.com, and showed the current price of all the items in your inventory, in real time.

Thanks for your consideration.

Hey there. I've played FFXI from its early stages but had to quit after a few weeks. But now I've got the luxury to play again. (Nothing beats the classics)

To get to the point, Polutils is awesome! I know tons of stuff in C#, from memory management up to creating 3D graphics using OpenGL. I'm pretty sure I can use my skills to improve your work. Let’s face it, Polutils is destined to have a better future and I have ideas how to make that happen.

You know what, you’re the only guy out there that was willing to share his work to the world and I feel like that I need to return the favor by making this bigger. Hopefully this would be another rolling ball of a helping hand.

One thing I had in mind is something like this. (Leather vest, ROM-28-8.DAT)

Yeah that’s right! New 3D images for our items. Looks cool huh! I’ve seen a lot of model viewers out there but none of them show only the items. And all of them are buggy especially on the NPC/PC actions, which can be fixed. This is just a start. Please send me a pm and we can talk more stuff about this.

There are still a lot of players like me that are final fantasy fanatics and Polutils is the perfect tool we need to make things more exciting. In my helping hand you can be rest assured that what you started here, will last for a few more years.
