|
|
A new utility is about to go into private testing (no, you can't be one of the
testers): an NPC renamer for FFXI. This will allow editing the names of any
NPC (including monsters) in the game.
Currently, it only supports simple editing, and no DAT backups are made.
Features considered for later versions:
- save name changes (so others can easily apply your changes)
- some way of making changes reversible |

| While I know this is completely possible, I definitely wouldn't suggest using this. Renaming mobs and such will record the saved names in your game log which GMs can see. This was a known route done to tag placeholders such as old Ulli and Leaping Lizzy, your chat log will record things like "Player uses Provoke on MOBWITHCHANGEDNAME." If a GM every pulled your chat logs for any reason and they would see that, that most likely would be a ban. |

Before starting the utility, POLUtils will pop up a warning that using the tool is against the TOS and could result in a ban; but this is something that has been requested a few times, and wasn't hard to implement.
Note that it's highly unlikely that the client sends the full string for events like "Player uses Provoke on X" to the server, it would be highly inefficient. What they can definitely see is actual chat, so if you have several macros with <t> that would of course be dangerous. |

Even if it's not allowed, it's fun to play with it ^^; nice work!

| I can't seem to figure out how exactly to make this work. I know exactly which mobs name I want to change, I just cant figure out how to make the tool change its name! Is there any tutorial on how to use this or am I just being oblivious to something? I guess theres also the possibility that this broke with a recent update, but it seems very unlikely due to the way this tool seems to work. Anyway any help would be appreciated. |

Select zone from drop-down.
Scroll to find the NPC.
Click NPC name to select it.
Click again, or hit F2, to go into edit mode.
Edit the name and hit enter (or click outside it).
Repeat as needed.
Click "Show Changes...".
Make sure those are the changes you want, and apply them (and/or save them as a changeset for others to apply too - perhaps handy for LS leaders or somesuch). |
